Glove Method Prompts Controversy

The glove-eating method adopted by Crazy Legs Conti and Tim Janus as a last-minute gambit to gain advantage in the recent GoldenPalace.net ice cream eating contest has caused controversy in the world of competitive eating.

Several eaters have complained that competitors in the event should have been required to use spoons, and one veteran eater has filed a formal complaint with the IFOCE seeking a clarification of rules and possible sanctions against eaters who use the method in the future.

Commissioner Charles Hardy has not yet reviewed the complaint and was not at the event to provide a ruling. IFOCE Chair George Shea said only: "We cannot comment on an issue that is under investigation."
