Chestnut's Stuffing Method
Joey Chestnut recently shocked the world of competitive eating and set up one of the greatest battles in modern sport by eating 50 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes. His performance calls into question Kobayashi's dominance in advance of the Nathan's Famous July Fourth contest.
However, his eating style was unvconventional at best, and some say problematic.
Unlike Kobayashi, who eats hot dogs in the elegant Solomon style, Chestnut simply dunks, crushes and stuffs. The style was highly effective, but unorthodox in a sport that prizes control.
In one way, Chestnut's approach was simliar to that used by Kobayashi. He seemed to stuff the hot dog in, pushing the previous hot dog down to his stomach in the process. Many have wondered if Chestnut has consciously employed this style or if it is a free-form method born of enthusiasm.
Eating fans will be watching on July Four as the battle of the ages plays out.
