Poutine - What Is It, Why Are We Eating It?

One would think that poutine -- French fries topped with fresh cheese curd and covered with brown gravy -- would be an American dish given its place in the world of diet and nutrition. However, this diner staple was developed in Quebec in the 1950s and is now popular throughout Canada. It was only a matter of time before MLE came on the scene to bring it to international stardom.

MLE will join forces with Smoke's Poutinerie in Toronto on May 22 for the World Poutine-Eating Championship to be held at BMO Field prior to the Toronto FC/New England Revolution Soccer game.

When asked how the professional eaters might approach this delicate dish, MLE's Mike Antolino said they would likely "use the fork that god gave them to bring masses of curd-laden fries to their fast-working gobs."
